Jacob Robar

Exceutive Director

My name is Jacob Robar and I am the new Executive Director for Workplace Learning PEI. I was previously a project officer with the organization for 8 years, where I helped administer or facilitate the Seasonal Workers Skills Initiative (SWSI), Essential Skills for Atlantic Fisheries Project (ESAF), Workforce Employability Readiness Certificate Program (WERC), Apprenticeship Learning Support Program (ALSP). Today at WLPEI, I lead a great team that run multiple projects and programs, all targeted at upskilling workers, helping employers onboard/train and assisting people with achieving their learning goals

I currently live in Kensington, PEI, however I often work out of our centers in Charlottetown, Summerside, Montague and Lennox Island. I came to PEI from NS to take my BA and BEd at UPEI, where I taught in the public school system and a number of not-for-profits for several years. When I am not working at WLPEI, you can find me volunteering at the Kensington Chamber of Commerce, ResourceAbilities, Island Nature Trust, or Island Trails.

Catherine Ronahan

Position

Kwe’ / Hola / Bonjour / Hi everyone! I’m Cat (short for Catherine) Ronahan. I’ve been working in the community sector for about 30 years, here on Epekwitk (land laying in the water) and some internationally, mostly supporting adults in building skills, confidence, and figuring out their direction in life and work. I actually come from a math background, so sometimes people call me “Mathy”. Now most of my work is around facilitation, career development, and creating practical, hands-on learning experiences.

I use a strengths-based, non-judgmental approach. I believe people learn best when they feel supported to find their own solutions. We work hard to Workplace Learning to create the space to help that come forward. I’ve had the chance to work with a wide range of folks – Indigenous communities, newcomers to Canada, and people navigating different roadblocks to employment. I’m really glad to be here and learning alongside you!

Stephanie Torr

Learning Coach

My name is Stephanie Torr and I am a Learning Coach with the Workplace Essential Skills for Success (WESS) program in Charlottetown and Montague. In my role, I support adult learners with an array of goals, including achieving their high school equivalency and improving basic reading, writing, and numeracy skills. I have worked with Workplace Learning PEI since October 2020 and I’ve been fortunate to experience a variety of different roles in order to grow my skills and meet many interesting people. I’m also a certified Personality Dimensions® facilitator. I love leading groups through these fun workshops to help people discover more about themselves and those around them! Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors, listening to podcasts, and learning about personal finance.

Devon Turcotte

Learning Strategist

My name is Devon Turcotte, and I am the Learning Strategist for the Apprenticeship Learning Support Program (ALSP), run in partnership with Apprenticeship PEI and the Government of New Brunswick’s Virtual Learning Strategy adult-learner support model. In my role, I provide academic support to apprentices while in block training, particularly those who have ADHD, learning disabilities or other barriers to success in learning environments. I started with WLPEI in 2022 as a Learning Coach in the Workplace Essential Skills for Success (WESS) program, and I’m the one behind all our social media. I’ve also been fortunate to deliver Workforce Development workshops, Supervisor Training and provide job coaching and onboarding training. Outside of Workplace Learning, I am a Certified Career Development Professional, providing career counselling support to mainly Gen Z clients. When I’m not working, you’ll find me making music somewhere, cheering on the Blue Jays, or out paddling or hiking.
